How To Fix The Moulded Silicone In Your Showers- By A Pro Caulker

Follow our step by step tutorial on how to get rid of the dirty Silicone in your shower and replace it with fresh long lasting silicone & get back to enjoying your showers again!

Mould is a product of heat and water, So some potential causes of the Mould in your the shower may be:
-Poor Ventilation
-Non Mould resistant Silicone
-No Fall in shower so water which leaves water Pooling on the silicone.
Our first step to a fresh shower is cutting out the Moulded silicone. You will need a blade to cut this out. Remember to be extra careful when removing silicone especially with polished tiles as you do not want to scratch the tiles in the process.

You may want to wear some heavy duty gloves protect your hands incase the knife catches or slips. Be sure to remove all the silicone residue from the tile.
Now that we have cut out the Silicone we should have clean corners in our shower and a dustpan full of old silicone which goes straight in the bin.
Our next step is to wipe down the corners which were previously filled with silicone with a disinfectant, We will then leave it for 10 minutes.
Then we will return and wipe down the corners with a wet clean cloth, To remove any residue from the disinfectant, We should now have a clean shower that is ready for a fresh new silicone job.
We are now at the final step. Applying our new silicone.
We are using a Caulking Gun & Maxisil Mould resistant silicone . Cut your nozzle on a 45 degree angle for easy application. Apply the silicone. Spray with clean tap water with a few drops of clear liquid soap & using caulking timber sticks to remove excess sealant.
And now we have a Fresh new shower with clean silicone that will last.
Some tips for keeping Silicone Fresh:
-Wipe down silicone joints with clean water every few months.
-If water pools at corner, Wipe it down after shower.
-Ensure you are using a mould resistant silicone.
